Chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the head and neck area reduce the flow or secretion of saliva and cause dehydration and thus affect the taste of eating.
Here are some suggestions:
- Drink a little water every few minutes, making it easier to swallow and talk.
- Eat foods high in sugar, such as beverages and sweets These foods help to produce saliva (Note: Do not do this if you suffer from sensitivity in the mouth and throat).
- Chew gum or ice cream.
- Eat soft foods or mashed easy to swallow.
- Moisten your lips with mildew.
- Wet the food to make it easy to swallow.
- Consult your doctor to prescribe appropriate treatment.
